Putty Beach

Putty Beach Drive, Bouddi (accessible via Bouddi National Park).
With Killcare Beach regarded as one of the top ten Australian beaches, it is no wonder that Putty Beach in Killcare is one of the Central Coast’s best kept secrets. Tucked away past the camping grounds in the Bouddi National Park, this calm family-friendly beach is pristine and peaceful. For the avid surfer, wander down the sand to Killcare beach where the barrels are perfect. As it is located in the national park, pets are not allowed at Pretty Beach, however they are permitted at Killcare Beach.

terrigal sml

Terrigal Beach

Terrigal Esplanade, Terrigal.
Terrigal Beach is home to one of the Central Coast popular towns, surrounded by fantastic restaurants, cafes and shopping. Patrolled all year around, Terrigal Beach is ideals for surfing, swimming, fishing and contains rock pools for the kids to explore. The Haven is a mini harbour area that is popular for boating and is increasingly becoming popular for diving since the scuttling of the Ex-HMAS Adelaide in 2011. Terrigal Beach is one of the most visited beaches on the Central Coast.

1 copacabana

Welcome to Copacabana.

In early European settlement days, Copacabana was originally named Tudibaring, an Aboriginal word meaning ‘place where the waves pound like a beating heart’. To add confusion, the seaside town was also known as Allagai, Judi Barn, Kincumber and Macs until 1954 when Gosford City Council granted permission to name the town Copacabana after the famous beach in Brazil. A popular surfing and swimming beach, Copacabana is situated at the northern end of Macmasters Beach, the two beaches divided by Cochrone Lagoon.

Copacabana is home to a Surf Life Saving Club and the beach is patrolled with people urged to swim between the flags. From late May to early August, humpback whales can be seen frolicking in the waters as they migrate to warmer water. Copacabana features a small shopping strip featuring cafes, bakery, newsagent and chemist. Situated only 90 minutes drive north of Sydney CBD.

Blue Bay

Welcome to Blue Bay.

Tucked between The Entrance and Toowoon Bay, Blue Bay is located on a peninsula between Tuggerah Lake and the Pacific Ocean. Named after the calm blue water that graces its 250 metre long shoreline, Blue Bay is one of the Central Coast’s best kept secrets. This small seaside town is perfect for families thanks to its gentle beach with small surf. The bays attract bream and whiting, while the rocks are fished for luderick, blackfish and mulloway. A popular place for stand up paddle boarding, Blue Bay beach is only a two minute walk along the sand to patrolled Toowoon Bay beach which also offers a children’s park and picnic area. Blue Bay is also just a short walk to Toowoon Bay cafes and The Entrance Surf Life Saving Club. Apart of the Wyong Shire Council, Blue Bay is only 90 minutes drive north of Sydney CBD.

Spotlight On: Kaleah Balcomb, Cove Cafe

Cove Cafe is highly regarded as Terrigal’s best cafe and if you’re not already familiar with Cove, let me explain: cafe patrons are initially blown away by its seaside location at The Haven … and then the food arrives! Delicious, beautifully presented unique meals created by top chefs. And did we mention the coffee? Cove manager Kaleah Balcomb not only oversees the day to day operations of the business, she also makes a killer coffee, coming second recently in Manfredi’s Barista comp. We chat to Kaleah about Cove and her love for the Coast…

Tell us about Cove Cafe and how it eventuated…
The Cove is an amazing cafe right on the beach in the Haven, Terrigal. I actually started working upstairs in Reef Restaurant about 5 years ago, and then somehow found myself working downstairs at Cove around sporadic university and music commitments. My love of coffee and the fantastic workplace means I’ve been unable to leave!

Would you say breakfast or lunch is your busiest time of day?
It depends on the day of the week. During weekdays breakfast tends to be busier, a lot of people come in for their morning coffee. On weekends lunch tends to be more popular, especially if the weather is nice.

Cove_Kaleah 4

Tell us about what your role entails…
I generally work coffee and teas. I honestly love to make coffee and experiment with different styles of latte art. I also equip all staff with barista skills – even at least at the basics – so anyone can step up to the machine when needed. My job description also happens to cover drinking as much coffee as possible!!

What is your most popular dish?
The Bacon & Egg Spring Rolls – we are the only cafe that does a dish like it.

COVE (1)

Which dish is your personal favourite?
Let me think … Bacon & Egg Spring Rolls! They’re so good that customers became angry when we tried to take them off the menu! Plus there’s no hangover cure like them…

What do you enjoy most about the Central Coast?
The laid back vibe.

Is there anything the Central Coast needs?
We’re lucky enough to be in a place that has almost everything. I just wish it was all closer together!

Your favourite place on the Coast?
Too many to choose from. Terrigal has a great beach and a good choice of cafes, restaurants, bars and ice creameries. Not to mention a wonderful view all of the time.

Cove_Kaleah 1

Which beach do you love most and why?
Bateau Bay. It’s a fairly quiet beach, my family would always go there when I was little and we would climb the rocks. I have fond memories of it.

Which sports team do you support?
The one that’s winning at the time!

Best Dining Experience (apart from Cove Cafe)?
The Reef Restaurant!

If someone was visiting the Central Coast for the first time what would you recommend they do?
Visit Cove Cafe! The pelican feeding at The Entrance is good too and time at our beaches is well spent.

Where do you love to go when not on the Coast?
To be honest, I don’t leave much – I love it here. Every so often I’ll do a trip to Sydney or Newcastle.

Which Accom Holidays property would you most like to stay at?
Agave at MacMasters Beach looks stunning!

avoca beach

Avoca Beach

Welcome to Avoca Beach.

Avoca Beach accommodation is in a relaxed beach town with a strong surfing community on the Central Coast, NSW. Avoca Beach is split from its northern neighbour North Avoca by the calm and reflective Avoca Lake. Original inhabitants of the land were Awabakel Aborigines. The first Caucasian to occupy land there was Irish Army Officer John Moore in 1830. The town was originally named Avoca, Celtic for “Where the river meets the sea”.

Having one road in and out of Avoca Beach makes this a safe and mostly quiet town. The warmer weather brings an influx of visitors and tourists to Avoca Beach who regards this gorgeous area as a beautiful holiday destination. Its lake and sandy white beach that stretches to North Avoca is a popular destination for the wealthy and holidaymakers in need of a sea break.

Apart from surfing and water sports, the town also offers a large children’s playground, tennis courts, and a sports oval for family fun and games. Avoca Beach is also known for its historic picture theatre which was built in 1951 and still in existence. There is also a surf lifesaving club, art gallery, tea house and bowling club to keep you entertained.

On 13th April 2011 the Ex-HMAS Adelaide was scuttled 1km off shore at Avoca Beach and is now available for divers to explore at the bottom of Avoca Beach.

Its main shopping strip contains a variety of restaurants which specialise in Thai, Tiki, Malaysian, Indian, Italian and Chinese cuisines. But a seaside town is not complete without a fish & chip shop, an array of cafes and a pub, of course!

Its small shopping strip along Ocean View Drive contains hair salons, retail stores, cafes and some of the finest restaurants that the Central Coast has to offer. Stunning coastal cliffs and expansive ocean views can be seen along platforms at Wyrrabalong National Park which is abundant with wildlife. The name Wyrrabalong is Aboriginal for ‘headland looking over the sea’. Bushwalking is a popular activity in the Wyrrabalong National Park which contains tracks leading to Spoon Bay beach.

The lagoon is a popular place to splash about or for the adventurous paddle boats and stand-up paddle boarding are a must. Wamberal is close to local putt-putt and golf ranges, aquatic centre, shopping centres, pubs, clubs and restaurants.

Welcome to Terrigal.

Terrigal accommodation will put you right in the heart of a major coastal town on the Central Coast. Terrigal is renowned for its pristine beach, lagoon and relaxed vibe. Its unique shopping strip known as The Esplanade contain boutiques, home wares, cafes and some of the finest restaurants that the Central Coast has to offer. Fine dining cuisines include Thai, Indian, Italian, Greek, Japanese, French, Mexican and award-winning seafood takeaway shops.

First settled by caucasians in 1826 when European settler John Gray and wife Amelia Willis moved to the area. He called their property ‘Tarrygal’, an indigenous Aboriginal name meaning ‘place of little birds’. Today Terrigal has a thriving Surf Life Saving Club, football and cricket clubs and is now home to approximately 9,500 people.

Terrigal once had two lagoons but one has since been filled in to make way for traffic. The lagoon is a popular place to splash about or for the adventurous paddle boats and stand-up paddle boarding are a must. Terrigal is close to local putt-putt and golf ranges, aquatic centre, shopping centres, pubs, clubs and restaurants.

For decades Terrigal’s large headland the Skillion, located in The Haven, has been a well-known landmark to tourists and locals alike. Each year Terrigal hosts a local food and wine fair in the Haven. Divers also leave from this point to explore the scuttled Ex-HMAS Adelaide which is around the Skillion’s headland on the bottom of Avoca Beach.
